Start Date:12/4/2009

Pine Mountain State Resort Park will offer guided fall/winter elk tours in 2009-10. With sightings averaging over 100 elk per trip, the tours have proven to be wildly popular. Participants must sign up in advance for one of 8 tours planned for the 2009-10 viewing season.

There are three tour participation options:

1) Basic Tour - $20
The basic tour includes a Friday evening elk program; Saturday sunrise tour, and a continental breakfast.

2) Full Package Tour for 1 Person - $107
The package includes Friday evening dinner, Friday evening elk program; Friday evening lodging, Saturday continental breakfast Saturday sunrise tour, and Saturday lunch for one person.

3) Full Package Tour for 2 Persons - $158
The package includes Friday evening dinner, Friday evening elk program; Friday evening lodging, Saturday continental breakfast Saturday sunrise tour, and Saturday lunch for two people.

Participation in the Friday evening natural history program about elk is strongly encouraged, as it serves as an invaluable enhancement to your enjoyment of the Saturday tour. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, camera, water, and snacks.

The Saturday van tour leaves the park variably between 6:00 and 6:30 AM depending on the date, and usually returns to the park between 10:00 and 10:30 AM. Observations will be made from both inside and outside the vans. Walking distances are minimal. While outside the vans, all members of the tour must stay together and participants are not permitted to leave the tour to explore on their own. As well, participants are not permitted to follow tour vans in their own vehicles.

For children under 8 years of age, careful consideration should be given as to whether or not they will remain attentive and interested for the duration of the tour. As the tour provider, we feel obligated to make every reasonable effort to assure that the tour experience is enjoyable for everyone. The tour is not recommended for children under 3 years of age. Kentucky's Child Restraint Law requires that every child less than 40 inches in height be restrained in a federally approved child safety seat any time the van is in motion. It should also be noted that public restrooms will not be available on the tour.

Elk in Kentucky are free-ranging wild animals. While the elk viewing percentage at this site is high and chances are excellent that elk will be observed, sightings are not guaranteed. We expect to see elk on ev
